Congratulations to Kerry Washington for her successful run in "RACE" on Broadway.

Kerry Washington, Makeup by Andrew Sotomayor
Last fall, Kerry Washington made her Broadway debut in David Mamet's "RACE" on Broadway. She recently finished her run on stage with co-stars James Spader, David Alan Grier, and Richard Thomas. I first met Kerry when I did her makeup for the annual Americans for the Arts Gala held at Cipriani's 42nd St in October. The first thing she said was "Hi I'm Kerry." Followed by "First things first, are you related?" referring to Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor (the answer is no). Her longtime hairstylist, Takisha Drew, is responsible for perfecting those gorgeous waves. (More photos of celebrities at fabulous events can be seen on TheYBF.com)

Kerry is wearing L'Oreal Color Riche lipstick in Fairest Nude and Studio Secrets Professional Eye Shadow Quad in Earthscape.

Kerry is witty, worldly, talented, and has an incredible eye for style. Her remarks about gay rights during an interview for the documentary "The People Speak" still inspire me. She looked amazing in the Christian Dior dress above and in the white Marchesa mini below (Takisha did her hair and I did the makeup). Read more about what she wore by visiting MSN.

Congratulations to Kerry on her successful run in RACE, and best wishes for all her many upcoming projects.

Elettra Wiedemann Rocks it Out Again!

I recently did makeup again for the lovely Elettra Wiedemann who recently hosted Vogue's 30th anniversary party, fashion show, and concert to honor Express. She was one of my first celebrity clients and while she wears the "no-makeup makeup" really well, I also love when she tries something a little more "rock n' roll playing nice."

At the party, we were entertained by the fabulously fierce musician, VV Brown. If you don't know her, check her out.

Before Lady Gaga had a "Bad Romance", Jean-Luc Godard left us "Breathless"

While most Americans think of "Bonnie and Clyde" as the ultimate criminal couple, others would argue for the French dynamic duo featured in Jean-Luc Godard's 1960 gangster classic "Breathless." I first saw it in a film class at Columbia University, and almost saw it again last week at Film Forum. (My buddy Rob begged me to reschedule when he realized "Metropolis" was playing at the same venue).

This film is a milestone in international cinema and makes for a great night out. However, don't think the fun is limited to some of the earliest on-location film footage of the Champs Élysées and the mise-en-scène and a box of nonpareils.

You can visit the Worldwide Guide to Movie Locations to learn about all the places where the film was shot in Paris. Plus, the Rodarte sisters will be at Barney's New York (NYC) today from 1:00 to 3:00 PM signing limited edition T-shirts they've designed and movie posters in honor of the film's 50th Anniversary restoration and re-release.

Before heading to the theater, make the most of the opportunity and sweep Lancome's Artliner in Noir across your upper lashes to capture Jean Seberg's vintage look in one stroke. Adapt Jean-Paul Belmondo's iconic gesture (you'll understand after watching) and have your date brush a bit of balm across his upper lip. I suggest Facial Fuel No-Shine Moisturizing Lip Balm by the also long respected Kiehls - Since 1851.
Hurry and buy your tickets. I promise you'll enjoy this one. The Parisian anti-hero in this black and white film is so seductive, your own sense of right and wrong will be blissfully obscured by shades of gray.

For more insight into "Breathless" and Jean-Luc Godard, read Phillip French's article at The Guardian.co.uk.

The CFDA Awards Tonight!

The CFDA Awards are tonight! Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall will be even more glamorous than usual as the fashion industry gathers to honor America's most influential forces. Established and emerging talent is recognized among American designers who are the driving force behind modern style. Designers such as Narciso Rodriguez, Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang, Sean Combs, Calvin Klein, and Kate Spade have received such distinction.

This year, Michael Kors will join the ranks of Donna Karan, Carolina Herrera, Diane Von Furstenburg, Valentino, Karl Lagerfeld, and Yves Saint Laurent when he is presented with a Geoffrey Beane Lifetime Achievement Award.

A variety of other awards have been given to influencers who, though not designers, have powerful voices as masters of red carpet style, as with Sarah Jessica Parker, or as journalists like this year's winner Tonne Goodman of Vogue. Occasionally, distinction is given to one who may not even work in fashion at all, but who posesses the style and grace to reignite a nation's passion for dressing well and standing tall. In last year's winner, Michelle Obama, the Council of Fashion Designers of America intended not to honor notoriety, but herald the birth of legend.

This year's celebration will include one somber moment, as Alexander McQueen is remembered for his work. Though his life was cut short, his unique voice will continue to underscore the creative thoughts of designers, entertainers, artists and the everyman for generations.
